Fall 2011 Slice-of-Life Roundup 01: Tamayura: Hitotose, Kimi to Boku, Chihayafuru

October 12, 2011 5 comments

Right. For this season I intend to provide some form of coverage for the slice-of-life series (that’s plural, I checked~).

This is partly penance for not covering Usagi Drop last season, but also partly because I love slice-of-life and I’d like to give it whatever attention I can spare.

I.e. I want to write about slice-of-life but I’m too lazy a bastard to write 3 separate full length posts.

Ahem. On with the review.

Yuru Yuri 12 [END]: THE BEAST IS UNLEASHED

September 20, 2011 Leave a comment

What happens when a Pavlovian-conditioned Yuri fangirl tastes chocolate and happens to be surrounded by cute joshikōsei?

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea… and they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast; they worshipped the beast saying, ‘Who is like the beast?'”
– Lord Blackwood, Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Why Kousaka Kirino is a great character

September 16, 2011 7 comments

With the release of OreImo Light Novel 9 and the announcement that a second OreImo PSP game is in production, this would be a good time to reflect on the questions that are floating around various comment threads, such as:

“Why is this bitch still in the news?”

and

“How could people be blind enough to prefer an ungrateful, violent, spoilt brat over Kuroneko?”

The Curious Implications of the Stardust Witch Meruru OP

August 13, 2011 6 comments

Stardust Witch Meruru, or Hoshikuzu Uicchi Meruru, is an anime within the world of Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga nai.

Previously, viewers were unable to watch the full OP directly, having to endure off-shoulder shots and cosplay events to catch glimpses of it.

But now with the release of OreImo BluRay Volume 9, the Meruru OP can now be studiously scrutinized, so as to ascertain the true nature of this deceptively harmless show.

10 Things I love about Yuru Yuri (so far)

August 12, 2011 6 comments

One of my greatest regrets was not giving Yuru Yuri a chance when it first aired. I read the initial synopsis and decided to give it a pass.

An incredibly foolish mistake that I hope I do not repeat again. Because Yuru Yuri is possibly the best, or at least the most entertaining anime I’ve watched in a long time.

And now that I’ve watched it, my new greatest regret is that I haven’t been giving it the attention it deserves. I suppose this post is some kind of penance for that. So anyway, in no order whatsoever, here’s my favourite 10 bits of Yuru Yuri as of episode 06.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée 02: I would so accompany Yune through an entire supermarket

Alphabetically, categorically; it matters not.

This is what the Encyclopedia Britannica is missing: an electronic reader component with Yune’s voice reading out each and every entry.

GPS Yune version? It’ll never work – too many drivers dying of heart attacks.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée 01: It’s a Lost In Translation moment

So cute it's radioactive (too soon?).

If I could spend a day staring at a screencap of Azu-nyan, I could definitely spend a week staring at a screencap of Yune.

(I’d be dead after the first 3 days, but my body would still be facing the screen. Probably.)

Dammit Kirino why are you so damn cute.

Now this is the OreImo that I know and love.

Pardon me for starting from the ending, but I must write about Kirino. I cannot contain my passion for her.
