Hanasaku Iroha – 19: Don’t forget your random topless fanservice shots
procrastinating very busy over the past few days, so forgive me for this very late post, if there are any faithful readers out there >.<
But it’s the cultural festival season, and if it’s a school anime, there’s got to be one.
And there’s got to be a maid cafe. As expected, Yuina leads the waitress division, and surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, Minko is in charge of the food.
The usually nonchalant Minko scoffs at the decision, but the moment she finds out that Tohru would be going, she perks up immediately and starts preparing.
Heh, motive-driven people can be the best of friends, but they can be extremely irritating as well. If you hold their interest, they’ll do everything perfectly for you. But the moment that there isn’t a clear direction, they sink back into standby mode. Same goes for Minko. If she does something, there’s gotta be a clear motivation for it.
Minko ruthlessly cancels some of her team members’ suggestion for the menu, as their choices are influenced by trying to impress their love interest.
She stands firm with her decision that she chooses the menu according to the equipment available, and does not function on an emotional level.
But…come to think of it, isn’t Minko being a bit of a hypocrite? Using the limited equipment as an excuse, she’s still creating a menu that’ll impress her love interest, Tohru.
The girl whose idea was rebuffed by Minko had a love interest whom she wanted to impress, but that guy once made a fruitless confession to Minko before, so effectively Minko’s dealing a double blow to the girl.
Minko’s classmates are not impressed, not impressed at all.
It’s probably the first full-blown conflict we’ve seen in this series so far, and it has come quite late into the series. But it’s only through setbacks and conflict do we see real character building. Things might turn ugly next episode, and with Minko being as sensitive as a wall, she’s gonna need some help from her peers if she’s going to see this through nicely.
Other thoughts and musings:
Looks like we still haven’t had enough of skimpily-dressed Nako, so here’s a shot of her undressing!
And then suddenly Minko is topless! I like how the directors ambush us with SURPRISE NUDITY all of a sudden.
Kou makes an appearance in Ohana’s dream as a crossdressing maid to make the dream as trippy as possible. I’m beginning to think Kou has lesser and lesser of a role to play in the series already. He’s not even that interesting.
Enishi has gone from ‘Biggest Wuss of the Year’ to ‘Biggest disgusting mushy blob of undefined bleh’ the moment he starts dropping the honorifics when mentioning Takako’s name and smiling to himself about it. Thankfully you can’t see Tomoe’s face, cos it may look something like this:
